From Boon Keng To Little India

The newly formed Sketching club had its maiden tour in Little India. Nobody had time to draw anything except for Len who made a fantastic sketch of a Chinese temple. Everyone else just observed, took photos and tried to absorb as much culture as possible. Coincidentally it's my first time exploring Serangoon too, so I was mesmerised by the sights and sounds of Little India.
It was an eye opening excursion which proved to be both enjoyable and educational. Enjoy the pictures.

This and a few other samples have made it to the Guiness Records for being the biggest, if I remember correctly. Its coloured rice...I think.

At least there are rubbish bins lining up the alleyways.

The alleyway is dingy, dark and unhygenic as an alleyway should be.

A mosque in Farrer Park.

Festival of lights. To celebrate Deepavali.

I can't read the Chinese words. Two lions guard the entrance.

Laundry hung out to dry. But its raining.

Jon taking pics of leaves?

A dragon protecting the Chinese temple.

More temples just opposite the Chinese Temple.

A primary school.

A Chinese temple deep in Serangoon.

The only time you can get this close to a lion with your head still intact.

The painted sculptures are covered with canvas sheets to protect them from rain.

The temple curator (wearing a white shirt and sarong) having a conversation with Michael.

Dipping his brush in the paint.

A volunteer painting the statue.

A small hardy tree on a rooftop.

Another statue carved from plaster, i think.

Human like statues adorn their walls

Scaffoldings and images of deities and gods.

The temple we took a peek at. Its still being built.

They sell birds of all varieties here.

The shophouses along Serangoon Rd.

Buildings in construction.

Serangoon Rd is a very busy stretch of road.

A Civil Defence safety helmet. Looks like a stormtrooper helmet.

A hospital not far from the civil defence post at Boon Keng.

We saw lots of fire engines, ambulances and police cars in Serangoon. Its a very 'happening' place.

The Fellowship

The place looks like the set of a SCI FI movie. Futuristic.

Reminds me of Justin Timberlake's Rock Your Body Music Video
